Members at Local 2449 Gather to Invite New Members to Learn the Union Difference

Members at Local 2449 at Walter P. Reuther Psychiatric Hospital came together on May 20, 2026, for an afternoon of solidarity and delicious food at a membership picnic. This picnic was hosted by Local 2449 Leadership to allow members to get together in fellowship, ask questions about the union, and obtain the latest version of the contract.
All bargaining unit members were invited to the picnic to help build membership and provide non-union members the opportunity to learn about the union difference and see the solidarity in action.
“We value time with our members,” said Dorice Butler, president of Local 2449. “Events like these allow us to connect with our current members and hear their concerns and share how our union is working to make improvements to our workplace. It also lets us meet potential members and have conversations about the importance of a union as a State of Michigan employee.”
Local 2449 at Walter P. Reuther Psychiatric Hospital is one of several State of Michigan units represented by AFSCME Michigan. If you would like to learn more about the union difference, please visit www.afscme.org/difference.
