AFSCME Michigan welcomes the newly elected International Vice President (IVP) Kelly Indish. Indish was elected at the AFSCME 46th International Convention in Los Angeles, California on Thursday, August 15, 2024, and was sworn in in front of the AFSCME members from across the United States.

“I am honored to be chosen to represent AFSCME Members across Michigan on the International Executive Board. As a frontline employee myself, I understand how important it is to make sure our voices are heard within our workplace and in our union as well,” said Indish.

Born into a union family, Indish has deep roots within the union movement. Her father was a shop committeeman for General Motors until his retirement and her mother was the original driving force behind the organizing efforts of McLaren Flint nurses. She followed in her mother's footsteps by becoming a registered nurse in 2008, and then naturally became a part of the union in 2009.

Indish’s union journey started as a member, then as a steward and continued to grow in responsibility. She has served several officer positions within AFSCME Local 875 including Executive Board Member, Secretary-Treasurer, and now, Union President.

Not only has she made a difference for her local union, but also for AFSCME Michigan as well. She has served as a Volunteer Member Organizer and attended blitzes throughout the state of Michigan to help other locals grow their membership and voice in the workplace. She speaks to members and leaders alike to help them develop their union story and build a strong, unified voice. Kelly Indish is the embodiment of AFSCME Strong.

“As your AFSCME International Vice-President, I commit to carry a strong voice of advocacy for our State to the AFSCME International Board. I will continue to advance the interests of our Union and our members.”
