President's Monthly Report - AFSCME Local 1583
February 21, 2026
Angela S. Dameron, President
Greetings!
The AFSCME 1583 Facebook page is up and running. I encourage you to join and engage with your union brothers and sisters. We will post updates on union events as well as answer any union questions that you might have.
When receiving a DLO you should have a union steward present. The union is hearing that management is neglecting to have a steward present to deliver DLO’s and terminations. If you are not afforded a steward when receiving a DLO reach out to the union and let us know.
The union along with Council 925 will be giving away a 55-inch color TV in March. Members that sign up for the P.E.O.P.L.E. program will be eligible for the drawing.
The AFSCME International union was on campus this week to educate our members on the P.E.O.P.L.E. program.
To understand what "PEOPLE" stands for in AFSCME, consider the following points:
- P: Public service workers advocating for their rights and benefits.
- E: Empowerment through collective bargaining and union representation.
- O: Organizing efforts to unite workers for better working conditions.
- P: Political action to influence policies affecting workers and communities.
- L: Leadership development to cultivate future union leaders.
- E: Education and training programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
I had the opportunity to visit Camp Michigania in Boyne, Michigan last week. We have two Maintenance Mechanic 111 members who maintain the camp year-round. They were very appreciative to meet someone from the union after over 25 years! Thanks for all that they do!
Welcome new members! Did you know that being a dues paying member and being in good standing allows you the opportunity to vote on your contract, to attend membership and information meetings as well as hold positions within the union? Contact the union and join today!
Not receiving emails? Please be sure to update your email and password with HITS. The union primarily relies on email to notify you of important union information as well as upcoming events.
Site Visits- South Quad-Orientation, Michigan Medicine, Building Services-Orientation, North Quad and East Quad. Please let me know if you would like a site visit so that I can plan accordingly around your breaks or lunches.
District Stewards are needed on Central Campus! Please join the team!
As a District Steward, you will assist your fellow union members, Chief Stewards, and your Union when you become part of the team. If you are interested in joining, please email Angela Dameron, President, [email protected] or contact the union office at, 734-480-1300.
Chief Stewards are in the office on Fridays and available to answer your questions, 12pm-2pm. You can reach them by calling 734-480-1300.
In Solidarity,
Angela S. Dameron, President
