The International Union, Michigan Council 925 and AFSCME Local 1583, held a “Blitz” in Ann Arbor this month. We visited sites at South Quad, Bursley, Michigan Medicine and the Transportation Department.  We engaged with multiple members, answering questions, providing information about the union and signing members up to become dues paying members. If you took the time to show up to one of the site visits . . .Thank you!!!!!

I would like to introduce our two newest stewards: Jeremy Phillips, Afternoons-Campus and Angel Ash, Days-Campus. Help me welcome them to the AFSCME Local 1583 Steward Roster. 

Ambassadors are still needed. Please respond to the email that was sent out last month if you are interested in becoming one. We all are the union and not one person can build the union alone.There is truly strength in numbers! I know that I have mentioned this many times but the more members (true union membership) that we have the more power we have! Let’s work together to grow our union thus becoming a united force here at the University of Michigan!

Union meetings are held every third Saturday of the month. Your attendance is appreciated. These meetings allow the union to discuss union business and to address any issues or concerns that you have. 

Do you know that being a dues paying member in good standing means that you can hold any office in the union?  You can also be a member of the negotiating team, vote on the contract, attend union meetings and enjoy union events. If you can’t attend the informational meetings, please reach out to the local union office or contact me at my email address listed below.

District Stewards are needed on Central Campus! Please Join the team! 

As a District Steward, you will assist your fellow union members, Chief Stewards, and your Union when you become part of the team. If you are interested in joining, please email Angela Dameron, President, [email protected] or contact the union office at, 734-480-1300.

Chief Stewards are in the office on Fridays and available to answer your questions, 12pm-2pm.
