Hello Brothers and Sisters
Survey:
If you have not filled out a survey, there is still time. You can fill out a paper copy or online.
Serval notices have been sent out regarding the upcoming negotiations team. This Saturday, November 16, 2024, will be nominations and the election for the proposal team. A total of eight members at large will join the eight Chief stewards to make up the Contract Proposal Committee. From those 16 (8) chief stewards and (8) members at large, this group will vote on the eight that will be on the Contract Negotiations Team.
Holiday:
Holidays will be observed on the calendar day on which it falls except that a holiday falling on Sunday will be observed on the following Monday. i.e.: Memorial Day. Employees work their last day prior to and the first scheduled workday following the holiday. An employee who works on the holiday will be paid for the time worked at one and half times their hourly rate and shift premium, if applicable. If an employee fails to work on a holiday on which they are scheduled to work, they shall not receive pay. Unless their failure to work is excused.
Employees that work in Michigan Medicine in lieu of Season Days each employee shall receive 32.0 hours of paid Time Off added to their PTO accruals, pro-rated by the employee’s appointment fraction (FTE).
Discipline:
Discipline should be both corrective and progressive rather than punitive. Michigan Medicine and University (campus) will follow the discipline procedure which is both corrective and progressive. The discipline procedure will be documented warning, written warning, a one- day disciplinary layoff, a two-day disciplinary layoff or written warning in lieu of disciplinary layoff (paper DLO- for absenteeism only), and discharge. If an employee has remained discipline free for one year, the supervisor will repeat a step before moving forward with progressive discipline. Paper DLO’s will be clearly identified as such and used as disciplinary action for unexcused absenteeism. For serious offenses, steps of progressive discipline may vary.
Inappropriate Language:
Be aware of your surroundings and people around you. Avoid sensitive subjects, personal, intimate conversations are not appropriate. The use of profanity is never appropriate. Using words that are discriminatory, or demeaning isn’t appreciated by anyone. Words that are spoken joking or in anger that is inappropriate can have serious repercussions. If a situation has become uncomfortable and confrontational do not hesitate to disengage as quickly and quietly as possible. Never be afraid to step away to deescalate the situation.
You can request a steward for any problems that are affecting your work performance or if you believe that your contract is being violated. Be specific in giving details of the violation, details of what, where, when, and who is involved.
Chief Stewards can be contacted at the union hall on Fridays. Please feel free to contact me anytime. My number is (734) 323-4868. Email virgo@umich.edu or the union hall (734) 480-3852.
