Discipline:
Discipline at Michigan Medicine and the University (campus) aims to be corrective and progressive rather than punitive. The established procedure involves several steps: a documented warning, a written warning, a one-day disciplinary layoff, a two-day disciplinary layoff or written warning in lieu of disciplinary layoff (designated as paper DLO for absenteeism only), and eventual discharge if necessary. In cases where an employee remains free of disciplinary actions for a year, the supervisor will repeat a step before proceeding with further progressive discipline. Paper DLOs will be explicitly identified and utilized strictly for unexcused absenteeism. For serious infractions, variations may occur in the steps of progressive discipline.
Inappropriate Language:
Be aware of your surroundings and people nearby. Avoid sensitive subjects; personal conversations are not appropriate. Profanity and discriminatory language are unacceptable. Inappropriate words, whether joking or in anger, can have serious consequences. If a situation becomes uncomfortable or confrontational, disengage quickly and quietly. Don't hesitate to step away to deescalate.
You can request a steward for work-related issues or contract violations. Provide specific details including what happened, where, when, and who is involved.
Work Schedule Article 8
Section C:
Changes to an employee's assigned regular work schedule will not occur from one calendar week to the next, except in cases of employee absences or variations in the regular workload that were known prior to the required four (4) days’ notice of their assigned schedule.
If an employee's work schedule changes to a different shift, they must be notified at least ten calendar days in advance.
Pavilion:
The union is discussing with Michigan Medicine the impact of the Pavillon opening on employees.
Negotiations for the contract will begin next week. The team has worked hard to ensure a strong agreement.
