Bargaining Chairperson Report - November 2025

Bargaining Chairperson Report
November 15, 2025
Hello, Brothers and Sisters,
Article 23: Season Days
Employees working at Michigan Medicine will receive 32.0 hours of paid time added to their PTO accrual accounts. Campus employees will get 32.0 hours (equivalent to 4 days) of seasonal days off between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Article 20: Promotion and Transfer
During December, employees who wish to be considered for a transfer the following year can complete up to two transfer forms and submit them to their department. The transfer request forms are only valid for the upcoming calendar year. Employees transferred or promoted into a department from another department may complete up to 2 transfer request forms and submit them to their new department after they have been in their new department for at least 6 months.
Holiday:
Holidays will be observed on the calendar day they occur, except when a holiday falls on a Sunday, in which case it will be observed on the following Monday (e.g., Memorial Day). Employees are required to work their last scheduled day before and the first scheduled workday after the holiday. Employees who work on the holiday will be paid 1.5 times their hourly rate, including any applicable shift premium. An employee who does not work on a scheduled holiday will not receive holiday pay unless their absence is excused.
Discipline:
Discipline should be corrective and progressive, not punitive. Michigan Medicine and the University will follow a documented procedure: warning, written warning, one-day layoff, two-day layoff, or paper DLO (for absenteeism), and discharge. If an employee remains discipline-free for a year, the supervisor repeats a step before advancing. Paper DLOs are clearly marked and used for unexcused absences. Serious offenses may change the steps of progressive discipline.
Inappropriate Language:
Always remain aware of your surroundings and the people nearby. Avoid discussing sensitive topics; personal and intimate conversations are generally inappropriate in most settings. Profanity is never acceptable. Language that is discriminatory or demeaning is unacceptable and unwelcome to everyone. Inappropriate remarks, whether made in jest or out of anger, can have serious consequences. If a situation becomes uncomfortable or confrontational, step away calmly and quickly. Don't hesitate to walk away to help de-escalate the situation.
Chief Stewards can be contacted at the union hall on Fridays. Please feel free to contact me anytime. My number is (734)323-4868. Email [email protected] or the union hall (734)480-3852.
