Jessica Kennedy's Essay |
|
When asked what my career goals are, I find it effortless to answer with, to help, inspire, and encourage people. I want to make a difference in people's lives by pushing them to their limits and leading them down a path to finding out what they are made of. I am majoring is physical education with an emphasis in fitness/wellness, and I will be using my knowledge, from my college degree, as a personal trainer, coach, and working at camps with youths. I aspire to give back to the community by helping people get into the best shape possible and to fight the obesity epidemic that is sweeping the nation. I volunteer time now, through my sorority, doing community service that I want to continue after college. I want to go to schools to talk about alcohol awareness and how it can affect the lives of everyone around it. I would love to be involved with younger children and go to summer camps to teach them about fitness and the importance of staying healthy. I mainly want to take time out of my own life to get involved with oothers and make a difference for them The union has made a vast difference and has affected my life in countless ways. My mother found herself in an abusive relationship with no way out because she didn't have a secure job. Once my mom was able to get a job that was secured by the union, it made it possible for her to get out of the relationship. My mom was able to take us four children and buy a new house of our own. The union helped to make my mom a strong and independent woman that did not have to worry about her husband controlling her life anymore. It has affected how I live my life from day to day. I was able to go home and visit my mom without having to worry about an alcoholic father that threatens to kick us out of the house. I feel that I have come to realize that it was never a home that we lived in before, just a place to sleep and come to after school. The union has now made it possible to go to a place that I feel secure in calling a complete and loving home that my siblings and I worked hard to fix up and make our own. I feel that I deserve this scholarship because I have worked my hardest, taking on as many jobs as necessary to pay my way through college; and I have yet to take out a loan or borrow money from my mom. I am extremely focused on my education and I am determined to be successful. I feel that I have grown into a strong and independent young woman that has a lot to offer others and I plan on sharing what I know with the world. - Jessica Kennedy |
