Dear MI Council 25 AFSCME Members:
There seems to be no end to the relentless effort of Gov. Snyder to undermining public education, destroy public workers’ rights and benefits and destroy public pensions. This week – the likely last week of the legislative session for the year – he is trying to take over more and more schools by codifying, controlling and expanding Michigan’s Educational Achievement Authority. Currently the Authority is only robbing the Detroit Public School System and doing little or nothing to improve the fiscal or educational situation there. Now he wants to expand it to a school near you. The result will be loss of seniority rights, loss of wages and benefits, loss of dollars to school systems (on top of the $1 bill he already cut to give to his business buddies in tax cuts for which we have received no new jobs) and loss of contributions to the Michigan Public School Retirement System (maybe as much as $10 million).
